Hi friends! Thank you for the great comments on my “The Importance of Slowing Down” post from yesterday! I’m happy to report that I am writing this post with all my various email inboxes closed. 😉
Anyway! I wanted to check in today to recap our weekend! It was a really busy but fun one – full of a lot of wedding-related festivities! Lara, one of my best friends from high school, is getting married in July, and this past weekend was her bridal shower and bachelorette! I wasn’t able to make the bachelorette party because Matt and I were at a wedding on Saturday night (more on that in a minute), but I was able to join for the shower festivities. 🙂 Phase 1 of the shower was right up my alley: a CrossFit workout!
Lara is super into CrossFit, so it only made sense that’s how we started the day! Jenny (my high school BFF) and I were the only ones brave enough to take Lara up on the challenge. 😉 We met her out at CrossFit Rubicon in Vienna on Saturday morning for her CrossFit gym’s 9 a.m. team workout of the day. The boot camp I go to a lot at Urban Athletic Club incorporates a lot of CrossFit moves, but I hadn’t done a workout with the bar in awhile – nice to get back to it!
Jenny and I teamed up and Lara teamed up with her fiance, Jim. Yes, they were rocking matching shirts for the occasion. Loved it! I actually got her this adorable CrossFit-themed bridal tank as part of her bridal shower gift to rock next time she goes! 🙂
The WOD (workout of the day) was 4 rounds of the following: a 20 calorie row (it took Jenny and me between a minute 45 seconds and 2 minutes to do that… we’re not fast, it’s cool) + 10 burpees with lateral jumps over the rowing machine in between each burpee + 5 thrusters (squat down while holding the barbell to your chest, then stand up and press it overhead).
It was a great workout – fun, too!
I was especially proud of Jenny! She’s 6 months pregnant and totally rocked it. (She’s a fitness instructor, so she’s in awesome shape! She just modified the burpees a bit and did step overs instead of jumps over the machine.)
After the workout, we all headed home, prettied up, and went to Lara’s shower! Her family hosted all of us and there was a beautiful spread of food.
I snuck out of the shower a bit early to meet Matt and head over to the beautiful Dumbarton House in Georgetown for the wedding of one of Matt’s good friends/roommates from college!
We hang out with the bride and groom (Carl and Lauren) a fair amount here in DC and couldn’t wait to see them tie the knot. We also went to the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, which was lovely.
Matt was honored to be asked to be an usher, so he walked the mother of the groom down the aisle. It was hot out but a beautiful ceremony!
The cocktail hour after the ceremony featured lawn games – what a good idea! Corn hole? Don’t mind if we do!
A bunch of you guys on Instagram were asking where my dress came from – here it is over on the Nordstrom website! It was outrageously expensive and didn’t have a price tag on it when I tried it on or else I probably wouldn’t have tried it in the first place, but once I fell in love with it there was no turning back. I figure I only buy new wedding appropriate dresses once every 5 years or so and wear them a million times, so I’ll get my money’s worth eventually. 🙂
When I bought this dress I also splurged on this beautiful glam/formal dress from Macy’s – we have a fun resurgence in weddings this year (I think we’re going to 7?!) and two of the ones we’re going to are black tie, so I figured I should go for it. I had a big coupon and an old gift card, though, so that helped with that one!
Anyway! A HUGE congratulations to Carl and Lauren! It was so fun to celebrate with you both this past weekend. <3
This post is getting crazy long, so I’ll save my Sunday long run recap for tomorrow (which is actually National Running Day – perfect!). Check back in for a sweet giveaway in honor of the “holiday”! 🙂
Have a good one, my friends!
