Hi guys! Matt and I had a fun weekend – both of his brothers and their wives were in town to meet Riese!
Matt’s older brother Chris and his wife Jess arrived in Friday evening in time for dinner. I decided to test out a new blog recipe on them – an instant pot maple mustard chicken. It was yummy – I’ll be sharing the recipe tomorrow, so stay tuned! I served it with a simple slaw (just chopped red cabbage + olive oil and apple cider vinegar with a little salt and pepper) and some brown rice.
On Saturday morning, Matt and Chris took Riese and Freyja for a long walk while Jess and I treated ourselves to a yoga class! I introduced her to one of my local faves, Edge Yoga. Great workout, as always!
Jess and I swung by the grocery store on the way back to get brunch provisions – we had quite the feast!
Bacon, scrambled eggs, fruit, and a roasted potato hash with peppers, onions, and spinach. To save time we bought frozen potatoes that were already cut and ready to roast.
The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing at home – Matt’s younger brother Drew and his wife Morgana arrived in the afternoon and we had fun catching up. That evening, my parents came over to babysit so the 6 of us could go out to dinner together – what a treat! Chris and Jess have two little boys so this was a big treat for them, too. 🙂 We went to Ambar in Clarendon – they have something called the “Balkan Experience” where you can get unlimited small plates for $35 per person and we definitely got our money’s worth – we ordered just about the entire menu. I didn’t take many photos but it was so good!
As for yesterday, my mom hosted brunch for everyone – she made my Smoked Salmon Vegetable Egg Casserole (<- recipe), an old fave.
Plus bacon, pumpkin muffins, and fruit.
The sibling gang! So good to see them and Riese was quite the hit. 🙂
Chris and Jess headed out after brunch and Matt and I took a nice long walk with Riese, Freyja, Drew, and Morgana before they had to head out to catch their bus back to NYC. The weekends always go too quickly!
Matt and I spent the rest of the day relaxing – we had simple salads for dinner and cozied with Riese on the couch and watched a silly horror movie just for fun – “Happy Death Day.” It was entertaining – kind of a Groundhog’s Day meets Scream type deal. We hadn’t watched a movie in ages – usually we are too tired! – but we started this one around 6 and that was perfect so I could still be in bed by 9. 😉
I’ll leave you with a couple photos of Riese as usual – she officially turned 3 months old on Saturday! Growing up so fast already!! ALSO – we are pretty sure we heard her laugh for the first time last night! We were singing “wheels on the bus” to her and she was really into it and I’m pretty sure we got a couple giggles. Cutest thing ever! We couldn’t get a smile for the 3 month photo, though – oh well. 🙂
Have a good one, and see you back here tomorrow for the instant pot chicken recipe!
