Venice in a Day (Part 1!)

It was freezing cold and raining on and off today… and Venice was still beautiful and awesome 🙂

I’m obsessed with the canals and all the tiny little unique streets — I love that you can just turn a corner and come upon something like this:

As you guys know, I headed to Venice today with my brother, Steve! This was my second time visiting Venice, but Steve had never been, so it was fun showing him around 🙂

The train station is about a 45 minute walk from the main square in Venice (Piazza San Marco!), which was nice because it gave us time to take in all the beautiful scenery and tiny winding streets! It’s very easy to get lost in Venice, but it’s so small you won’t be lost for long, and even if you are it’s so cute you won’t care 🙂

Our first order of business upon arriving in Venice, however, was lunch! We found a cute little pizza place and dug right in.

Move over, German sausage… it’s time for a calzone the size of my entire body.

Seriously. This was so enormous it overtook the plate.

Stuffed full of delicious veggies: spinach, eggplant, zucchini, and… corn?! Why do Europeans randomly add corn to everything? So weird! Oh well… it was delish, corn or not 😉

My brother enjoyed the sausage and mushroom pizza. Yum!

After lunch, we headed toward Piazza San Marco (the main square) for some sightseeing!

But… I must leave you all in suspense now, as this post has gotten out of control and I still have a billion pictures I want to share with you 🙂

Stay tuned for part 2, including some great pictures of the palace and basilica in Piazza San Marco, plus our awesome dinner (yes, I had pasta with black squid ink sauce!!). Also, I may or may not have gotten a photo with the cute little Italian man who worked at the restaurant. Heh!

    When I went to Venice, I went on a gondola with a friend and the gondolier serenaded us! Slightly awkward haha! :D Mmm that calzone looks delish! :)

    Beautiful Anne. I'm with you, Italian food rocks. Being half Italian myself and raised on half American and half Italian food, I got the best of both worlds. I love my pizza and black eyed peas.

    The Japanese add corn to a lot of weird stuff, too. Like pizza. I do not understand it at all--but considering the rest of the world seems to add corn to this stuff maybe us Americans are weird for NOT doing it?

    I'm with you on the corn thing - when I lived in Ireland, my housemates were always putting sweet corn in things, especially tuna sandwiches!
