Good afternoon, friends!
Another Biochem exam has come and gone… even though I felt like I was really prepared for this one, I still don’t think I did all that great on the test. Sigh. Oh well, it’s over, right?! 🙂
Minus studying flash cards, I had a fantastic rest of my weekend and I hope you all did, too! The weather was beautiful yesterday and Matt and I enjoyed lunch on our patio:
… or at least we tried to and were enjoying a lovely lunch al fresco when all of a sudden a bunch of carpenter bees showed up to join us! They’ve been around on and off for the past week, grrr. I was hoping they had left after the cold weather last week but no dice! It’s funny because Matt is not scared of any bugs or anything in life really except bees. He’s seriously TERRIFIED of them, and he jumped about a mile when one flew by his head! And inside we went 😉 Any tips on how to get rid of carpenter bees?!
Anyway! Lunch was still delish 🙂 I whipped up big salads topped with chickpeas, kidney beans, chopped basil (adds SO much awesomeness to a salad!), tomato, and green pepper. Topped with a homemade vinaigrette of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh lemon juice, dijon mustard, and sea salt and cracked pepper!
Yum!
We also enjoyed some communal grapes:
And crackers with a Laughing Cow cheese:
After lunch we headed out on a bike ride with our friend Tim! Sadly his wife Lindsey couldn’t join us — Tim and Lindsey are both doing their medical residency right now and she was stuck on the night shift all weekend. Boo!
Matt and I ready to rock:
Aren’t those bright yellow flowers beautiful?!
We weren’t sure what type of flowers they were — any thoughts? I remember rapeseed looking like that in Europe but wasn’t sure if that’s what it was or not!
Anyway! We had a great ride all through farm country. So beautiful out there!
We ended up covering about 16 miles in the beautiful sunshine. Here are Matt and Tim near the end of the ride:
After the bike ride (and ice cream at Maple View Farm, obviously), I raced home, changed out of my sneakers and biking shorts, and headed out again for… INTRAMURAL SAND VOLLEYBALL!!!!
Haha oh yes, sand volleyball! We had to replace the epic Walleyball with something, right?! 🙂
It was awesome. I love intramural sports 🙂
My team obviously got completely destroyed, but we have high hopes for next weekend 😉 We did get a little better by the end of the game, ha!
Win or lose, it was just awesome being outside in the beautiful weather playing with friends. That’s my favorite way to spend a day!
Speaking of playing with friends — I’m off to play tennis with my friend Lindsey (Tim’s wife)! It’s like 85 degrees here today — what the heck?! I’ll take it.
Have a great night, friends!
