Hey friends!
We have had some fabulous weather lately and I’ve been taking advantage!
First up, I got in a run date a couple weeks ago with friends. Here’s how I felt about being out there with them on a beautiful day. 🙂

We covered almost 5 miles doing some running and some walking – my longest postpartum distance yet! It feels really good to be able to run again, I missed it.
We’ve also had some fun family outings lately. A couple weekends ago Matt and I took Riese and Wes downtown to wander around the monuments.
We parked on Ohio Drive along Hains Point and had some big excitement right away when some helicopters flew by – maybe the President?!
We walked over to the Lincoln Memorial and had a lot of fun exploring, watching the ducks in the reflecting pool, etc.
It was just nice to be out – now that Wes is a little older and the weather is warming up it’s nice to be able to get out more easily for adventures!
This past weekend, our family adventure was wandering around in Old Town, Alexandria down by the waterfront.
We did a lot of walking around checking out the water, seeing the ducks, etc. I’m always happy if we are by the water. 🙂
We had a super late lunch/early dinner at our old fave Virtue Feed and Grain in Old Town. I had the salmon with creamy quinoa and harissa plus a side salad and some shared fries.
Wes loved the salmon – and Riese basically just ate french fries. 🙂
She’s in a big “I don’t like that” phase with most foods right now, including foods she actually has in fact really enjoyed in the past (like salmon)… but the best approach with her has been to not force it because she is one headstrong lady.
So, if she wants only fries, that’s fine. We’ll keep offering a variety and sometimes she surprises us and has some – we just keep it low pressure.
She did really enjoy a dinner we had the other night, though, which was my Mediterranean Sheet Pan Chicken Thighs (<- recipe).
My parents came over for dinner one night when Matt was out with friends and this is one of our family favorites. It’s so easy to prep – we didn’t have any onion or zucchini and did steamed string beans on the side instead, so this meal didn’t even involve any chopping – just dumping it all on a sheet pan!
Riese doesn’t like tomatoes but she loves olives, and she liked the chicken and the orzo, too. Win!
Wes was also a big fan of all of it, although most of the orzo he enthusiastically tried to eat with his hands ended up on the floor. 😉
Our sweet little man is already 9 months now – where does the time go?!
Here is the aftermath of me trying to take a 9 month block picture… he made short work of those blocks!
I have been thinking of writing a baby/mama update post since I haven’t really written anything like that recently (and I know many of you liked the ones I wrote when Riese was little – there are some linked below in the “related posts” area if you want a trip down memory lane) – so if you have any questions for me or topics you’re curious for me to discuss, let me know!
Have a great week my friends – see you back here on Friday with some recipe fun!
