Can I get a TGIF, my friends?! 🙂 Matt and I are actually staying in town for once this weekend (shocking, I know) so we’re looking forward to relaxing a bit! Hope you guys have fun weekends ahead, too. If you want something to bake and missed my post yesterday, check out my whole grain Vegan Strawberry Scones! Perfect for Sunday mornings. 🙂
As for this week, one of the big highlights was last night’s workout adventure with lululemon logan circle, Roam Fitness, and some of YOU! 🙂
I mentioned earlier this week on the blog that I was helping to host a fun (and free!) workout adventure with them and loved that so many of you were able to make it out to join us!
The workout was Roam Fitness’s specialty, “OutRun”, which is one of my favorite workouts in DC. What’s OutRun? It’s basically your run club + boot camp combined. The weekday version usually covers about 5k in an hour ish (weekends are ~5 miles and 1.5 hours), including lots of stops for adventures – some planned, and some unplanned (stop lights!). You kind of feel like the city is your playground, which I love.
We had about 30 people come out for the adventure, which began at lululemon logan circle. From there, we were off en masse, scaring away other pedestrians and stopping frequently for mini boot camps.
Hi Katherine! 🙂
Our next stop was a partner workout! Planks + high fives. Whew!
From there, it was on to Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights, which I’d super lamely NEVER been to before and wow, I’ve been missing out. It’s gorgeous!
And for our purposes, it had stairs. Lots of them. 🙂
We split up into groups and had one person from each group run up the stairs (alternating sprinting and frog hops up the stairs – so awkward) while the others did some sort of lunge or squat or plank or other craziness.
Then it was back to the sidewalks! As part of the adventure, there were two sandbags – one 10 pounds, one 20 pounds – rotating around through the group during the running portions. I was lucky enough to get stuck carrying the 20 pounder for a few blocks of one of the uphill stretches – yikes!
That thing was HEAVY!
Our final stop on the adventure before running back to the lululemon store was a beautiful overlook.
Pretty sweet view of the city from up there! While we enjoyed the view, we got in a killer ladder exercise featuring squats and high knees. Oof!
Here’s Iwonka from Roam Fitness, who was our fearless leader for the evening. She did a great job – high energy and good at wrangling so many people, too.
What a fun way to spend a sunny evening in the city! After making it back to the store, most of us headed over to a restaurant on 14th street, B Too, to continue the festivities over drinks and food. I love any workout that ends with a good meal! I had the lobster waffle and it was as awesome as it sounds.
Thank you to Roam Fitness for the great and fun workout, and to lululemon logan circle for facilitating the adventure and generously gifting me with a pair of shorts and cute tank for the workout. The shorts are the “Tracker Shorts” and they are SUPER comfy – you’ll be seeing a lot of them on here, and normally without tights under them (it was chilly last night)! Really lightweight, great sweat-wicking, and a nice zipper pocket, too, plus a comfy, wide waistband. As for the tank, it’s the “Lightened Up Singlet” in the Secret Garden flower pattern, which I loved (as did Iwonka – she was sporting the sports bra and shorts in the same pattern!). It’s loose and breathable, sweat-wicking, and has a really pretty back, too. Should be great for hot and humid runs!
A big thank you to all of you who came out for the adventure – I had so much fun chatting (and sweating) with you! 🙂 Let’s do that again sometime, shall we?
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
