Hello, hello! We are back in DC and have hit the ground running with the workweek, but it’s fun reliving the end of our Outer Banks beach trip with family by looking through the photos! Take me baaaack!!!
The last few days of our vacation were spent like the first half that I wrote about – lots of good food and playing in the water!
As we did earlier in the week, we stuck with our general routine of sleeping in, getting in some sort of fitness (either a yoga class at Duck Village Yoga with the ladies or a walk/jog with Matt), and spending the rest of the day at the beach followed by the pool. It was the best – I’m happiest when I’m near/in the water, and I spent a lot of time tossing the football with the guys in the waves, jumping over the waves by myself, or playing pool volleyball with the others. It was really hot out and the cold water felt so good!
On Friday morning, I took a break from the yoga and Matt and I had a nice long morning walk. It was hot by the time we went and I was tired from all our water adventures and the yoga, so no jogging this time. Walking felt good! We walked around the neighborhoods for awhile, then along the beach, then back into town.
In the town of Duck, our favorite coffee shop is Treehouse Coffee – we stopped in for lattes (half decaf for me) and breakfast before walking back home – they have insanely huge and amazing biscuits. I got a bacon, cheddar, and tomato omelette which came with a biscuit and some fruit. Massive – I didn’t make it through all of it – but so good! You guys know I love my biscuits – one of the things I really miss about living in NC!
Other food highlights from the week included a massive seafood feast with the whole gang on Thursday night!
Matt was the entertainment for the party – he brought his guitars, amp, and microphone from home for the occasion! He was excellent, even if I’m a little biased. 🙂
The next night we had a Mexican fiesta at our place – Matt’s dad got all sorts of fun decorations and created a huge taco bar with all the fixings for everyone! It was awesome.
No Margaritas for me, but the tacos were excellent. 🙂
My plate – I went back for one more pork taco – that was my fave protein!
Our last night of the trip was an “everything must go” use up the fridge night – Matt’s parents threw together a frittata since we had a lot of eggs and cheese on hand, and we had two different salads to go with it.
Dessert was Duck Donuts! My brother and sister-in-law Chris and Jess picked them up for everyone – soooo good.
Cinnamon sugar for me – delicious! I can take or leave cake, but I loveeeee donuts. My favorite is classic donuts, though – no crazy toppings or icing, please!
We were so sad to say goodbye to everyone and to the vacation life! Matt and I left super early on Sunday to beat the traffic and were home by noon, which was nice – good to have the whole day to get everything together and unpack.
Until next year, Outer Banks! We will miss you!
Have you been to the beach this year? Do you prefer relaxing in the sand or playing in the waves – or both? 🙂 I like a mix, but I love lots of time in the water!
