If you missed part 1, check that out first! I share details about where we stayed and why it was so awesome. 🙂
In addition to the great food and awesomeness that was Fort Lewis Lodge, there were a number of other highlights on the mini-moon. One of the big ones was biking!
Matt and I decided to bring our road bikes with us (using a new bike rack we received as a wedding gift!) and I’m so glad we did! It was seriously the most beautiful bike ride I’ve ever gone on. Empty country roads, brilliant blue skies, and amazing fall colors.
If I didn’t know better, I’d say that was a Carolina Blue sky. 😉
We biked over to the state fish hatchery, recommended as something fun to check out by our lodge owners.
With us, we brought packed lunches! The lodge where we were staying feeds you breakfast and dinner every day but no lunch; however, you can get a packed lunch for a small fee. How cute is this?
They packed us each a turkey sandwich (lettuce, tomato, and mustard for me; lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo, and cheese for Matt), an apple, a mini bottle of water, and a homemade oatmeal raisin cookie.
There was even an ice pack to keep it cold and some napkins! 🙂
These cookies were AWESOME – they were still warm from the oven!
After we ate, we said hello to the fish, which meant that Matt poked his hand near the water and kept almost having it bit off. Boys. 🙂
And then we biked back! We covered about 15 miles total, taking some offshoots along the way. Hilly but so lovely. We were pooped by the time we returned!
We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on a blanket in a field by the lodge, listening to an audio book. Matt’s mom made us this beautiful t-shirt quilt as a wedding present and we were excited to enjoy it!
I’m pretty sure that was the most relaxed I’ve been in years. 🙂
Another highlight? Watching the sunset from the lodge’s outdoor hot tub.

And then it was off to Buck’s Bar to await dinner. 🙂
Stay tuned – tomorrow (Friday) I’ll be back with a final mini-moon post sharing another highlight: hiking!
