Hello, my friends! I had quite the weekend up in NYC for my future sister-in-law Morgana’s bachelorette festivities! The city that never sleeps lived up to its name, that’s for sure. 🙂
Before I get into my weekend recap, I wanted to share that my Nutrition for Runners co-author shared a great case study on his blog last week from a runner who tried our program! Click here to read the post and hear how Aaron went from thinking he wouldn’t be able to do another marathon to “hardly ever feeling tired.” So exciting to hear we are helping runners make eating healthy and fueling right easier and way less complicated – no calorie counting necessary!
Anyway – back to the weekend fun!
Morgana is marrying Matt’s younger brother Drew in a month, and it was a blast to get to celebrate this weekend with her and her friends. I hadn’t met any of the other girls until this weekend but everyone was really friendly and welcoming – it will be so fun to see them all again at the wedding!
As you can imagine, most of the weekend was spent rampaging about. 🙂 On the food front, I had two really great meals – one was at a cool spot called Craftbar in Flatiron on Thursday night with two of my UNC grad school friends before meeting up with the bachelorette crew on Friday. We shared some appetizers (unpictured) and then I had a really good salmon, veggie, and chickpea dish for my entrée. Yum, yum – the salmon was cooked perfectly and I was in the mood for something lighter. Loved this restaurant – great ambiance, too!
The other noteworthy dinner was at a spot called Marta with the bachelorette gang! One of Morgana’s friends used to work there and was able to have these cute menus made. I didn’t get any food photos, but their pizza was especially amazing and I loved the open kitchen with the big pizza ovens! If you’re a pizza fan, I highly recommend Marta – hip, trendy ambiance and delish food! Their Marta Mista salad was also epic.
As for fitness, I knew we’d be out late every night so even though I was tempted to try to meet NYC friends for fun early morning workout dates, I knew that was a bad idea. Instead, I kept things low key and made sure to prioritize sleep! I did make it to a solo afternoon yoga class at Exhale via ClassPass one afternoon during a break, though, which was lovely.
We also had a group fitness activity planned as part of the bachelorette festivities: a pole dancing fitness class!
We went to a place called Shockra Dance Studio that I’d definitely recommend if you’re ever in NYC and looking for a fun and unique group workout. It was hard – my arms were feeling it! I posted a fun video from the class on Instagram if you want to check it out. 🙂
And lastly, I met up with my friend Theodora for a late morning run on Sunday before hopping on the train back to DC! It felt great to sweat after an indulgent weekend – and I was happy she didn’t mind meeting up a little later so I could sleep in. 🙂
We did a nice big loop in Central Park. Never gets old!
There weren’t many people out because the NYC Half Marathon happened that morning, so a lot of people had already gotten in their run for the day by the time we got out there! 🙂
5 chatty miles, done. As always it was great to catch up with Theodora via our running shoes!
We grabbed lunch after at nearby Le Pain Quotidien – vegetables were calling my name in a major way, as were some berries – and their awesome bread! I ate almost every bite – their lentil salad is the best.
What a fun weekend! I got back to DC around dinnertime last night and Matt was nice enough to be waiting with some soup, per my request. Chicken, rice, and lots of vegetables – hit the spot.
Time to get caught up on work!
How was your weekend? Any great eats or fun workouts? Any of you do the NYC Half Marathon?
