Hello and happy Friday! I’m back at my second home, the airport, right now – this time to fly up to Portland, Maine for the Beach to Beacon 10k (<—2013 recap) with my Cabot Fit team friends! I’m so excited to have the opportunity to run that beautiful race again – and to see my Cabot buddies, too. To see who else I’m there with and for some recipe inspiration, check out this post that shares the Cabot Fit Team’s favorite running/fueling recipes. I’ll be back with a recap on Monday, but in the meantime, you can see what I’m up to on Instagram. 🙂 I’m going to try to get myself a new 10k PR tomorrow – we’ll see! Wish me luck!!
In other news, yesterday was Matt’s birthday! <3 Per tradition, the day began with breakfast in bed. Matt’s not a huge breakfast person so I kept things light – a little toast with nut butter, birthday blueberries, and Matt’s Maple Cinnamon Latte (<—recipe). 🙂
We both worked for awhile in the morning but planned to take the rest of the day off so we could have some fun adventures together! Late morning, we drove down to Mt. Vernon, parked, and headed out from there on a bike ride.
We hadn’t gone biking together in way too long. So fun!
We biked the 10 miles north to Old Town Town Alexandria, then stopped for lunch at Virtue Feed & Grain, where we snagged a nice spot outside since we were super sweaty. I got their quinoa salad topped with salmon. I know, I’m obsessed with quinoa and salmon lately. Delicious combo!
Then we biked back! We were in a bit of a time crunch on the way back because I had booked Matt a massage appointment in the afternoon back in Arlington, so it was good motivation to really pick up the pace. Added bonus: once we were back in the car and driving home, it started pouring. Glad we ended up having a speedy return trip!
We had dinner at home (a delicious Lamb Burger with lemony mint yogurt sauce and pan crisped zucchini, via Blue Apron)…
And then we got dolled up and raced out the door for Matt’s birthday surprise: I got us tickets to see the musical Once at the Kennedy Center!
The musical was AMAZING – probably the best I’ve ever seen, and Matt loved it as much as I knew he would. 🙂 Matt and I love the movie Once (that inspired the musical) so it was especially fun because we knew all the music! Highly recommend. 🙂
And now, time to board the plane and head up to Maine! Have a great weekend, my friends!
What’s your favorite musical? Jersey Boys is another big fave of mine – would love to see that again!
