Hello friends! Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my last post about the new DC program that prescribes fruit and vegetables — I really enjoyed the discussion! Feel free to keep it going — and be sure to check out the post and the comments if you missed it!
Matt and I had such a fun weekend — we spent it at our friends Tim and Lindsey’s lake house!
Remember Tim and Lindsey? They’re our friends from Chapel Hill — seeing them made me miss our life there! They live in our old neighborhood — apparently it is doing well but not quite as awesome without us. 😉
Tim’s parents own this lake house (we came last summer, too — so fun) and they head here a lot on the weekends in summer. This weekend, they invited us and a few of their friends from college to join them!
Dan, in the blue shirt near the right of the photo, is actually the reason that we know Tim and Lindsey — my parents and his parents are good friends and lived in the same neighborhood while we were in early college, so Dan and I and a group of others our age used to hang out together over Christmas breaks when we were all home from school. Dan is good friends with Tim from college, so Dan’s mom emailed me back when she found out from my mom that we were moving to Chapel Hill, putting me in touch with Tim and Lindsey!
Dan and I hadn’t seen each other since we were like 19, so it was fun to catch up. 🙂 When Matt and I arrived on Saturday, a bunch of us headed right out onto the boat for some tubing!
Dan and I ended up having a throw down — don’t worry, I won. 😉
Although I did fall off once! It was a seriously epic wipeout — I basically surfed on the water for like 30 seconds (and nearly lost my swimsuit bottom) before falling in because we were going so fast!
Oh, tubing. You are so fun. 🙂
The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling in the water on various flotation devices while enjoying some beer from the floating cooler. Pretty sweet way to spend a Saturday.
By around 6, we all came in and got cleaned up. Time to continue happy hour!
Oh, how I love this place.
The boys were in charge of making dinner on Saturday night and cooked up a really delicious meal for everyone.
We had tuna steaks seared on the grill, a salad with goat cheese, candied walnuts, and cranberries, and a baked gnocchi and cheese dish — SO good.
My compliments to the chefs. 🙂 The group of us spent the rest of the night playing various board games/trivia. Fun night!
This morning, we all had a lazy start, enjoyed some breakfast, Matt and I went out for a short 2 mile run before deciding it was way too hot to go farther, and then everyone headed down to the lake for more fun.
First up — a boat ride! Remember Hayes, Tim and Lindsey’s son? I can’t believe it but he’s 6 months old now! I remember holding him a couple days after he was born. How times flies. Here he is eating his life vest. Apparently it was delicious.
And here he is in the dining room earlier in the day. He’s still as adorable as ever! It’s fun because he’s much more engaged now and will give you the cutest little smiles. He has HUGE blue eyes and big, thick eyelashes, too. This kid’s definitely going to be a ladies man in the future. 😉
Anyway, back to the boat ride. Isn’t this place stunning? I love the combination of mountains and water.
Apparently boat rides make babies reeeeeally sleepy. 🙂 Hayes was completely passed out by the time we came back!
We decided to head back out on the boat for a little skiing. Lindsey went first — she’s a serious pro.
And I decided to try wake boarding for the first time! After numerous face plants/failed attempts while being towed by the boat, we switched to the jet ski — it’s a little easier for beginners since you can start slightly more slowly. After a few more tries, I made it up!
Last year, I tried water skiing for the first time here at the lake; I found wake boarding to be a little bit easier — and less scary when you wipe out, too. I also think it’s easier once you’re standing to keep it going!
Weeeeee!
What a fun weekend — between this and the beach in the Outer Banks a week ago, we have been so spoiled lately! Thanks again to Tim and Lindsey for having us. We miss you guys! 🙂
Have you ever tried wake boarding or water skiing? How’d it go? If you’ve tried both, which did you find easier?
