Hello friends!
Thank you SO much for your support regarding the Stonyfield Blogger Barnstorming Contest. If you have a second and can vote again today, I would be very grateful!

And now — on to my latest a$$ whooping at LA Boxing! 🙂
I went in yesterday for my 3rd personal training session with Jerome, one of their awesome trainers!
I know it sounds weird, but I’m actually really loving these hard training sessions. I’m clearly dripping sweat and dying the whole time, but Jerome and the other staff make it fun 🙂
In case you missed the first two personal training session recaps:
- Week 1 was all about a kick-butt conditioning workout
- Week 2 focused on boxing and self defense moves
Jerome told me he wants to continue alternating conditioning sessions with self defense sessions, so this week was straight-up conditioning! And let me tell you… it was HARD.
We started with wall-sits. Oh, wall sits. Why do you look so easy when you are SO hard?
Jerome had me alternate legs lifts while holding the wall sit. I felt the burn on this one!
Next up — the dreaded tire!
I had to squat down, flip the tire over and ahead of me…
…and then jump down into a plank position, and back up.
Aaaaand repeat!
Next up? Getting up close and personal with this bag:
My mission: squat down, wrap my arms around the bag, and stand back up while holding the bag, lifting with my legs/butt, NOT my lower back.
Me: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH… maybe if I cheat a little he won’t notice… hehe… I’m so sneaky…
Jerome: ANNE! I saw that.
Me: Dammit.
😉
Then we moved on to weights!
While standing in a squat position, I had to pull the weights towards me, acting like I was performing a pull up. Moves like this always seem easy until you do them more than… oh… once. 😉
Wait… more? Seriously?! 🙂
Next up: holding the weights over my head while lifting my knees up, one at a time, to meet Jerome’s hands:
My face is getting progressively redder (but at least Jerome is still making me laugh):
Next up was a series of moves with a weighted (10 lb) ball!
We started with a move where I alternated jumping to put one foot, then the other, on the ball:
..Moved on to holding the ball while sitting down and standing back up… over and over and over!…
..And then to walking lunges while holding the ball to my chest…
…and then walking lunges while holding the ball over my head.
Whew!
We finished up with two final total body/core moves. These were hands down THE hardest things ever.
I had to lie down, holding hand weights above me, while slowly lowering and raising (without touching the ground) the exercise ball I was holding squeezed between my feet.
Gahhhhhhhhhh… This happened a lot:
And just when I thought I was going to die… we moved on to holding my legs at an angle in the air while doing bench presses with the weights in my arms.
GAHHHHHHHHHHH…
::loud thunk as my legs hit the floor::
Jerome: ANNE!!
me: But it’s haaaaaaaaaaard!!! 🙂
Heh.
Finishing strong 🙂
Now THAT was one hell of a workout!
You know how you really know a workout is great? When your trainer changes and starts doing the EXACT same routine himself!
Mwa ha ha… the tables are turned!!
🙂
While watching Jerome suffer, I finished off my workout with a quick 2 mile training run. (I can’t believe my first half marathon is in less than 3 weeks?!?) It actually felt good to loosen my legs up after all those squats!
I ran 2 miles in 16:50. Done and done!

And now…
LA Boxing is letting me give away
ONE FREE MONTH MEMBERSHIP to a lucky reader!
…
Absolutely no strings attached (although I have a feeling you will want to join after a month with them)! The winner will also get a free pair of wraps, and free use of rental gloves.
**Sadly this contest is ONLY open to those living in the D.C. metropolitan area (or willing to travel to one of the following LA Boxing gyms: Arlington, Alexandria, Columbia, Rockville, or Georgetown).** Their gyms are franchised and it would be too complicated to do a nationwide giveaway, unfortunately.
I’ve created a separate page for the giveaway. Click here to enter — all you have to do is leave a comment!
Have a great day 🙂
