Hello friends!
I’m officially on Thanksgiving break! I got a TON of schoolwork done yesterday so with the exception of a project that I’m going to (hopefully) wrap up while on the plane today, I should be able to fully enjoy my break. Yay!
I don’t fly off to Pittsburgh until later this afternoon, so I started my break with a relaxing morning. I slept in (well, til 8… that’s sleeping in for me nowadays… sad?), ate breakfast, got back in bed and read for a little while. I LOVE doing that… it feels so indulgent! I’m finally reading The Paris Wife per all of your suggestions and LOVING it so far. After reading for a bit, I headed off to a 9:15 a.m. yoga class at Franklin Street Yoga!
It was an amazing class — I’ve been going pretty religiously to the Wednesday night power yoga class, which I love, but it was fun to mix it up this morning with a different instructor and different sort of flow.
The class was still challenging (I was sweating and definitely got a good workout) and included advanced poses, but we held everything longer, so I enjoyed working on my form and getting deeper into the poses, which is something I haven’t done in ages.
Since I was at the studio for once when there wasn’t a class immediately following the one I took, I was able to take some photos afterwards! Yay! I’ve been wanting to share some pictures of this place with you guys since I talk about it all the time. 🙂
Isn’t it nice? I love how bright and airy it is since half of the walls are actually windows (but with paper over them so you can’t see in or out and you don’t have intense light on you during the day).
I also really love this pillar in the middle of the room with inspirational quotes written all over it. I want to add one of my own someday!
This very simple one — “BE HERE.” — is my favorite.
Such a nice reminder to just calm your mind and really BE where you are, right then. I used to struggle a lot with that when I first started yoga, but now I’m able to really get into the class and enjoy myself. I mean, thinking about everything I have to do later isn’t going to get anything done and it will just stress me out — so I might as well just focus and be in the moment, right?
I love this big lotus flower painted on one of the other walls, too.
Even their lobby is cute. 🙂
I always try to be sure to fit in exercise over the week of Thanksgiving, and especially Thanksgiving day — it keeps me feeling happy and healthy even after indulging in lots of delicious food.
If you’re in the Chapel Hill area this Thanksgiving, Franklin Street Yoga is offering two totally free “Thanksgiving Gratitude” classes tomorrow (Thanksgiving day) — one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:30 a.m. Both classes are 1 hour 15 minutes and all are welcome. There’s also a 2 p.m. “Post-Thanksgiving Trifecta Jam” class going on on Friday — it’s 1 hour 30 minutes and will include yoga, pilates, AND zumba with 3 different instructors (normal class pricing applies). How fun is that? I wish I were going to be here!
I also love doing Turkey Trots on Thanksgiving morning — when in DC for the holiday, I’ve done the Alexandria VA 5 mile Turkey Trot a number of years and always loved it — I would really recommend it if you’re in the DC area! It starts at 10 a.m. and the course is flat and fast (or has been in the past), which is great for PR-ing and/or feeling like a rock star.
The year that I spent in Tampa, FL for Thanksgiving (2009), I also did a turkey trot — it was a 10k in St. Petersburg and one of my favorite races to date — super flat and great weather, too. I did the race with my brother and miss Meganerd who was living nearby at the time as well — my mom came too as our cheerleader. 🙂
When I spend Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh I just do my own Turkey Trot with Matt around his family’s neighborhood! Getting downtown to any of the official Pittsburgh races would be a bit of a hot mess, so we create our own instead. 🙂 Whatever works, right?!
Speaking of Pittsburgh — time to shower, pack, have a quick lunch, and head out the door for the airport! Happy early Thanksgiving and enjoy your breaks! I’ll be back with a recap of our feast, most likely on Friday. 🙂
How do you fit in exercise on Thanksgiving day? Any fellow Turkey Trotters out there?
