Why I Love Cottage Cheese
I’ve talked a lot about Greek yogurt being one of my favorite ways to add creaminess and protein to recipes. Cottage cheese is another fave way! Just like with Greek yogurt, cottage cheese can be blended into smoothies or pancake batter, mixed into oatmeal, or just enjoyed in a bowl with your favorite toppings.
It’s incredibly versatile, and a great source of protein, calcium, and potassium. It’s a staple in our household – I love having it on hand!
What actually is it?
Cottage cheese is similar to soft cheeses like ricotta and mozzarella. Essentially, it’s cheese curds that are created during the coagulation process when an acid (like vinegar) or live probiotics are added to pasteurized milk.
Once the whey (liquid) is separated, the block of protein that is left is sliced into curds and mixed with cream. And that’s the cottage cheese we know and love!

Now, let’s talk about what to actually make with cottage cheese! You can totally just toss it in a bowl with some fruit, nuts/seeds, etc. But if you want to get a little more creative, try one of these tasty breakfast or snack recipes with cottage cheese.

Say hello to the fluffiest oatmeal pancakes you’ll ever eat! They’re packed with goodness like oats, ripe banana, and protein-packed cottage cheese.
Plus, the batter gets blended for a smooth texture and easy cleanup! Serve with your favorite toppings (I love fresh fruit, maple syrup, and chopped nuts or seeds).
Scrambled Egg Breakfast Sandwiches
Soft cottage cheese is melted into fluffy scrambled eggs for a delicious, high protein breakfast sandwich filling! Just sandwich between English muffin or bread slices, add your favorite veggies (like spinach and tomato), and dig in.
These are great for meal prep, too, and easy to freeze for later!
Cottage Cheese Toast (Sweet & Savory Flavor Ideas)
This is one of the BEST healthy breakfasts or snacks when you’re strapped for time! Cottage cheese toast comes together in minutes, with no cooking required.
You can easily switch up the toppings, too, for a ton of sweet and savory flavor varieties. Some of my favorite toppings are smoked salmon, hard-boiled eggs, and avocado, but it’s also delicious with chia jam or berries on top.
Cottage Cheese Oatmeal
Creamy cottage cheese is so delicious stirred into oatmeal! Not only does it add protein to keep you full longer, but it also adds a lovely tangy (but not overpowering) flavor and textural intrigue to your oats. It’s so versatile that it works with both sweet and savory oatmeal.
This healthy oatmeal recipe is also made in the microwave, so it only takes 5 minutes to throw together!
