It’s finally here. Today, Saturday, October 13th, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. eastern time, Matt and I are getting married. 🙂
I can’t believe it’s been a year since Matt surprised me with a ring on the top of Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park, VA.
Or that it’s been 8 (!) years since we first met in DC and started dating.
There are so many things I’m excited for today.
I can’t wait to get ready with my bridesmaids, my mom, my grandmother, and Matt’s mom and rock that beautiful hair and makeup again.
I can’t wait to finally put my dress on for more than 5 minutes.
I can’t wait to wear those ridiculously high but totally worth it because they’re hot shoes (don’t worry, I have a backup for when my feet hurt).
I can’t wait to see Matt’s face for the first time as I’m walking down the aisle.
I can’t wait for our first kiss as Mr. and Mrs.
I can’t wait to take fun pictures in the beautiful scenery around our venue.
I can’t wait to see all our friends and family.
I can’t wait to see in person all the decorations and details and everything that we’ve spent so many months emailing and meeting about. (And let’s be honest… I can’t wait to not email and meet about those things anymore, too.)
I can’t wait for our delicious dinner. (I know you say we won’t have time to enjoy it, but I’m going to make sure we do!)
I can’t wait to hear speeches from my parents and our wedding party.
I can’t wait for our first dance and the father/daughter and mother/son dances.
And I can’t wait to party the rest of the night away.
But you know what I really can’t wait for? Way more than any of this?
I can’t wait for the rest of my life with Matt. Because all of this? This is just one day. Sure, we’ve been planning for it for a year now, and it will be wonderful, even if things go wrong, and I’m sure it will be over way quicker than we want it to be. But it’s what comes after that matters way more. And that? That is what I really can’t wait for.
Of course, this isn’t Hollywood. We aren’t perfect, our relationship isn’t perfect, and I’m sure our lives together won’t be, either. But I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of mine with anyone else. Here’s to many, many more years of adventures, and laughter, and kisses. Cheers! 🙂
