Best Gluten Free Appetizer Recipes
Below, I’m sharing my favorite gluten free appetizers, from a variety of dips to sweet potato crostini to a healthier (but just as delicious) version of classic deviled eggs.
No matter the occasion (or the season), there’s something for everyone in this list. Some are more fall-inspired, while others are especially perfect for warm summer BBQs. Either way, these delicious appetizers will be a hit with both your gluten-free and gluten-eating friends!
You might also love these easy gluten free meals or these gluten free side dishes.
Mango Habanero Salsa
Craving something spicy and sweet? Juicy mango and spicy habanero peppers come together for the most delicious and flavorful salsa! It’s simple to make, and you can easily make it less spicy (with jalapeños instead of habaneros) or not at all spicy (with bell peppers instead of habaneros).
Serve this tasty fruit salsa dip with corn tortilla chips (to keep the appetizer gluten free). It’ll be a hit at any gathering!
Creamy Beetroot Hummus (Vegan)
Not only is this beet hummus a beautiful color, but it’s also packed with delicious flavor! It’s super creamy (and also vegan), and pairs well with tons of dippers: crunchy veggies like cucumbers, bell peppers, and carrots, corn tortilla chips, gluten free crackers, etc.
You can make this even quicker by using pre-cooked beets from the store, but it’s super easy to roast them yourself as well. Then, all you have to do is put everything in a food processor and process until smooth!
Healthy Deviled Eggs
Deviled eggs are a classic appetizer for a reason – they’re creamy, delicious, and easy to make ahead of time! This lightened-up – but just as tasty – version includes a secret ingredients that replaces the mayo. You won’t be able to tell the difference, I promise.
A sprinkle of paprika ties the whole thing together, and you can also make them your own with chopped pickles, fresh herbs, sriracha, or any other toppings/seasonings you like.
Loaded Vegetarian Nachos
Who doesn’t love nachos?! These are gluten free as long as you use corn tortilla chips (just make sure they say ‘gluten free’ on the bag). Any toppings work here, but I love veggie-loaded nachos with black beans, red onions, bell peppers, jalapeños, and avocado crema (recipe included in the nachos blog post).
If you aren’t vegetarian, feel free to add your favorite type of meat as well, such as shredded chicken, pulled pork, or ground beef. This is a recipe that begs you to get creative!
Crispy Baked Kale Chips (4 Flavors!)
If you’re looking for lighter party fare that is unique and packed with nutrition but still bring tons of savory flavor and crispy texture, you’ll love these crunchy baked kale chips (no frying needed – they are baked).
In the recipe post there are four different flavor variations to choose from: Everything Bagel seasoning, lemon garlic, spicy nacho (my fave), and ranch. Something to please every palate!
Savory Pumpkin Hummus Dip
This fun twist on classic hummus is especially perfect for fall (but can be enjoyed any time of year). It’s made with canned pumpkin, beans, garlic, lemon, and more tasty ingredients, and comes together in minutes.
Plus, you can make it ahead of time and it’s easily portable, so there’s no need to stress on the day of the party.
Avocado White Bean Hummus
Here’s another delicious variation of hummus, with creamy avocado, zesty lemon, and white beans. It’s kind of like if hummus and guacamole had a baby. Plus, there’s no cooking involved – only a food processor.
It’s super simple to make, nutritious, and pairs well with practically anything: crunchy veggies, seedy crackers, tortilla chips, the list goes on. This bright avocado hummus dip is especially perfect for spring and summer, but I love it year round.
Feta Sweet Potato Hummus Bites
Roasted sweet potato rounds make a perfect swap for traditional crostini (and are naturally gluten free). This version features a Mediterranean-inspired bruschetta with tomatoes, fresh herbs, feta cheese, and hummus.
The sweet potato makes these appetizer bites great for fall and winter, and the fresh bruschetta topping makes them great for summer. It’s a win-win either way!
Healthier Spicy Queso Dip
Queso is a popular party food, but I don’t love how heavy and greasy it usually is. Enter: my healthier queso recipe (with a delicious secret ingredient)! It’s still uber creamy, cheesy, and easy to make, and it has a little kick of spice to it as well.
It’s delicious served with tortilla chips, bell pepper slices, or crackers (and makes a tasty topping for nachos, tacos, or quesadillas, too).
Sweet Potato Fries
These oven-baked sweet potato fries knock it out of the park every single time! They’re so simple yet so delicious, with a Mexican-inspired seasoning.
You can lean into the Mexican theme by serving these with salsa, or go a different route with this homemade creamy honey mustard sauce. Honestly, they taste good with anything.
Healthy Seven Layer Taco Dip
This lightened-up seven layer dip is packed with all the goodies: bean dip, avocados, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and more. This dip recipe happens to be vegetarian, but you can easily add a layer of cooked chicken, beef, pulled pork, or ground turkey if desired.
To make it less heavy, we swap out the sour cream and mayonnaise for Greek yogurt instead. It’s just as creamy and tangy and is always gobbled up in minutes at parties.
Crispy Roasted Mini Potatoes
Crispy potatoes are always a good idea, and in my humble opinion, these roasted baby potatoes are the BEST. They make a perfect finger food for parties – just serve them as an appetizer alongside your favorite dipping sauce. (I highly recommend my creamy honey mustard sauce, but ketchup is always a win, too.)
Plus, this recipe features two flavor variations (paprika thyme or garlic parmesan with rosemary). Both are totally delicious, but I’m partial to the garlic parmesan with rosemary pictured above.
