Hey guys, happy Friday!
I kicked off my Friday with a nice swim. I wanted to get in some sort of workout this morning but didn’t want to get up crazy early so most ClassPass classes were out, and it was a bit windy/rainy so running didn’t seem appealing. Pool it was! I hadn’t been to the pool in ages – I forgot how much I enjoy swimming. I just swim for fun vs. doing a hard workout, so it’s nice and relaxing and great recovery from other workouts. I used to go all the time when I was training for the Richmond Marathon and LA Marathon, but kind of forgot about it lately! Will have to reincorporate it into my normal routine. 🙂
Working backwards, yesterday’s workout was a nice mobility/stretching recovery session with Paul from Capital Energy Training. Felt really good – I was feeling sore after the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler + Tuesday’s track workout + a boot camp on Wednesday! On Wednesday morning, I met up with Chelsea and Kathleen for Urban Athletic Club via ClassPass (<- affiliate link for $30 off). It was a really hard one with all sorts of strength and cardio mixed in; here we are after class with our foam rollers, which has become a tradition – we cool down by foam rolling and chatting!
After the workout, I was really in the mood for a legit breakfast rather than something rushed/on the go, so I decided to treat myself to breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien in Dupont. It was a good morning for it because I didn’t have any AnneTheRD clients until late afternoon/evening, and I wasn’t publishing a new blog post on Wednesday (wanted to leave my race recap up another day). Instead of trying to catch up on emails on my phone while I ate, I enjoyed reading a magazine and relaxing. Work would be there when I got to the office, no need to stress myself out.
I had their tomato and avocado omelette and added mushrooms, plus an iced mocha. It was such a gorgeous morning – such a treat to sit outside and enjoy a nice relaxing breakfast! I was reading a recent Competitor Group Running Magazine – my favorite article was one about the San Quentin Marathon, which takes place in prison! Sounds like an amazing program.
In other food highlights, last night I had dinner with my visiting best friend Jenny, her sister Gretchen, and our friend Lara, also from high school! Such a fun treat to get to see the three of them. We hit up True Food Kitchen in Mosaic District, our old fave. We all started with one of their fun juices – mine was pineapple + orange + coconut water – so refreshing!
And then I had the Lasagna Bolognese. It was chilly last night so something cozy sounded good, and this did not disappoint!
For dessert, we shared a few things: the key lime pie, vegan vanilla ice cream (made with coconut milk – yummy but I like normal ice cream better!), and the flourless chocolate cake. I think my fave was the key lime pie – very light and super citrus-y!
Such a fun night with good friends!
Time to wrap up this workweek and then enjoy what looks to be a beautiful weather weekend in DC! Have a good one, my friends. 🙂
