Good morning friends! It’s a dreary, rainy day over here which has me dreaming of Wednesday, which was almost 80 degrees and sunny. Clearly that called for an outdoor meal – and Mexican food!
Wednesdays are my solo day with Riese; this week, we started with my mom’s group meeting in the morning, and afterward I met my friend Heather, her little baby, and her sister out for lunch at Tacqueria Poblano in Del Ray. Perfect day for it! As usual, Riese wanted to be held and take in the action, so I continued to refine my one-handed meal skills. 😉
That scarf-ish thing I’m wearing is actually a nursing cover (it’s this one – I love that it can be a nursing cover, infinity scarf, or a car seat cover!), and I’m glad I had it because we did our first out in public feed! I was able to cross my legs and just prop her up in the crook of my arm. I’m proud of myself for doing that – it wasn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be, of course. Isn’t that always the case?! I also did my first restaurant bathroom diaper change – big day! 😉
After lunch, we walked over to Dairy Godmother for custard – soft serve is not nearly as delicious as regular ice cream in my opinion, but it was the perfect day for something cold. 🙂
On Wednesday evening, I went to an Awesome Women Entrepreneurs networking meeting – I missed the past few for obvious reasons and I have to miss the next few so I was glad to make it to this one. It was nice enough out still that my friend Lisa and I walked there and back – nice to catch up with her! I was rocking another new dress that I treated myself to from thredUP – so obsessed with that site. And with wrap dresses – they are so perfect postpartum because you can make them tighter or looser as necessary, and you can breastfeed or pump in them!
As for other food highlights from this week, I’m still really into savory breakfasts – still doing lots of avocado toast variations and I also enjoyed some fried eggs with avocado and leftover roasted sweet potatoes earlier this week.
I had some leftovers from lunch on Wednesday so I ate those yesterday for lunch. I added a quick and easy homemade slaw on the side – just some chopped red cabbage with a little apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and salt and pepper. I was talking to one of my AnneTheRD nutrition clients yesterday during a session about remembering to make meals both satisfying in terms of volume (veggies are great for adding volume to meals), but also in terms of texture! I love crunchy food, so the tacos on their own would have been too mushy. Nice to add in some crunch!
Last night for dinner I had a couple friends over – they both have new babies as well and it has been really fun to be on this adventure together (SO many group text messages from 3 a.m.). We ordered sushi via UberEats and had some bubbly. It was so fun, and Matt had a work event and wouldn’t be home until later so it was the perfect night for it.
In case you’re wondering, sushi is the perfect one-handed meal. 😉
I will end this post with some fitness fun – when I wrote my Tips for Starting or Re-Starting Fitness post I mentioned that my goal was to get out to 1 fitness class per week. I have now increased that to 2 classes per week; usually I’m doing a boot camp with the girls in the early morning on a weekday and then a yoga class over the weekend and that feels just about perfect right now. The girls and I got in our group workout on Tuesday morning – we hit up Definitions via ClassPass (<- affiliate link for $40 off your first month) and it felt awesome to move (and chat away the entire class) as always! Love working out with these two. <3
I will leave you with a cute photo of Riese in “the jungle” (similar to this one) – she’s starting to really push up on her hands now during tummy time! Exciting! All went well with the frenectomy (for her lip tie) on Tuesday – she obviously doesn’t love the mouth exercises we have to do with her to make sure it doesn’t grow back, but otherwise she has done really well. She was a little fussier than normal that evening but now seems to be back to her cheerful self. Fingers crossed it makes a difference with breastfeeding… we will see! We have various follow up appointments (with the lactation consultant, the baby chiro, and the frenectomy doctor) next week to assess.
We have a fun weekend planned – both of Matt’s brothers and their wives are coming to visit to meet Riese for the first time! Can’t wait to see them! Catch you guys back here on Monday for a recap. Have a good one!
