Hi guys! Since the last couple posts have been all about food, and since this week was a fun one workout-wise, let’s talk fitness! I got in more movement this week than I have in a long time and the endorphins felt fabulous. My body is really starting to feel noticeably better in terms of postpartum recovery… this was the first week where running felt much more normal than it has in a LONG time. Hooray!
My best friend Jenny is in town visiting family right now; I had some early morning AnneTheRD nutrition clients yesterday but a relatively flexible rest of the workday with to do list stuff I could do whenever, so we decided to take advantage of her son’s nap time and meet up for a run date around lunchtime! Jenny just ran a half marathon so she’s in great running shape, but she didn’t mind taking it easy on distance and pace for me. 🙂
We set out to do 3 miles – I ran about 3.5 miles total last week during my cherry blossom run date with the girls, but that was broken up with lots of long walking breaks to enjoy the blossoms, so I wanted to see if I could do 3 miles this time more or less straight through/without stopping. (Although we did stop twice for photos – duh.)
Spring appears to have FINALLY arrived – it was kind of gray and chilly when we started, but by the time we finished the sun had come out and it was absolutely gorgeous! What a treat!
We made it the whole 3 miles, and I actually felt good out there, too! So exciting to feel my running mojo start to come back – there’s nothing like running for me in terms of stress relief/mental health, especially when I have a good friend by my side. Thanks for the encouragement out there, Jenny!
Another fitness highlight this week was finally checking out a stroller group workout class! I’d heard good things about the Stroller Strong Moms/SLAM group and the weather looked decent for an outdoor workout with the babe in tow on my day off on Wednesday, so we checked it out.
It’s always really stressful to get out the door and arrive anywhere on time when a baby is involved, but I made it happen and once we were there it was worth it – the group was really friendly (and big! so many moms and babies/kids) and the workout was hard but fun. Riese did really well, too – she shockingly slept in the stroller for the first 45 minutes of the workout, and then when she got a little fussy and wanted to come out I used her as my “weight” for the last 15 minutes of class which was fun. 🙂
I see why these groups are so popular – we’ll definitely be back! I love that many of the moms hung out afterwards (and let their kids romp around together) too – seems like a great community. I’m curious to check out the other main stroller workout option in the area, Fit4Mom/Stroller Strides. Have any of you tried both of these groups? Is there a big difference between them? I figure first class is free at each so might as well check out all my options… although I discovered the Stroller Strong Moms workouts are actually on ClassPass which is awesome since I already use ClassPass so much!
Anyway! One last workout for the week – I met up with my friend Chelsea bright and early this morning for a class at Bodymass Gym via ClassPass (<- affiliate link for $40 off). It was a great workout, as always, and so fun to catch up with my buddy! I’m always in a good mood on our morning workout days – sets things off on a positive note!
For my foodie readers, I will leave you with a photo of Wednesday’s lunch – my new mom friend Jen and I took the babes out to lunch at a place called Epic Smokehouse that was in walking distance of the stroller workout class. It was sooooo good – pulled pork sandwich + fries really hit the spot!
It was a bit messy as a one-handed meal, but I made it work. 😉
Have a great weekend guys! Matt and I are planning to take advantage of the gorgeous weather forecast tomorrow and do either a hike or a winery/brewery outing with the babe in tow. Or maybe both! 🙂 If you’re local and have any recs for wineries/breweries that are baby friendly and have lots of outdoor space, I’m all ears!
