Hey guys! We had such a fun weekend: my cousin Spencer, his wife Michelle, and my uncle Tim were here visiting! Spencer and Michelle stayed at our place, which was fun because Matt and I got lots of time to catch up with them. They live in California – wish they were closer because they are awesome and we would love to get to hang out with them more often!
On Friday, I gave myself most of the day off and took Spencer and Michelle on a fun DC sightseeing adventure! (Sadly Matt had to work so he couldn’t join us!)
We took the metro to Union Station, walked to the Capitol and then all the way down the National Mall! Michelle had never been to DC before and Spencer hadn’t seen the monuments in years, so it was really fun to show them around my beautiful city. 🙂
We took a brief detour for lunch at Sweetgreen (they both LOVED it)!
Then we were back to the walking!
I think I need to work on my jumping skills – check out how much air Spencer got! Although to be fair he has almost a foot on me to begin with… 🙂
Such a fun day – we made it all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial, then backtracked to end at the White House before hopping in a cab back to my place. We walked nearly 8 miles – insane! We were soooo tired after all that activity, especially because it was pretty hot out on Friday!
Spencer’s dad, my uncle Tim, got into town on Friday evening, so we met up with the rest of the fam for dinner that night! We decided on Sawatdee, which Matt and I love – such good Thai food! Matt and I shared some summer rolls to start (theirs are THE best).
As for my entrée, I had the pad pak (mixed vegetables in a garlicky brown sauce) with chicken and brown rice – my standard fave!
On Saturday morning, we all slept in, had some quick fuel at the house (toast with nut butter and banana), and then headed into Georgetown for a fun adventure: a class at Urban Athletic Club! Spencer and Michelle are also into fitness so I knew I wanted to introduce them to my favorite studio! It was an especially sweaty one, involving lots of squats, lunges, presses, pull ups, and even some outdoor sprints! Here’s a fun post-class photo of us challenging our guys’ core strength. 🙂
We changed out of our sweaty clothes and then headed to Grace Street Coffee for some iced lattes (iced mocha for me!) and strolling along the waterfront!
Followed by brunch at Leopold’s Kafe. Avocado toast with poached eggs FTW! Plus some of those gorgeous beets – shared with Michelle!
After a hard boot camp and walking around in the heat a siesta was in order – we all came back to our place, showered, and then took naps. 🙂
On Saturday night, we all had dinner at my grandmother’s with a huge group of family – fun to get everyone together!
Sunday morning, I made us my flour free breakfast pancake – I doubled the recipe and made one massive one and then split it into 3 (Matt wasn’t feeling it) with a fun toppings bar.
I went with plain Greek yogurt, blueberries, and some sprouted watermelon seeds and slivered almonds. Yummy and really filling!
As for the rest of yesterday, we spent the morning walking around Arlington Cemetery and then headed to our aunt and uncle’s place for another big family gathering for lunch. I didn’t get any photos, but we had fun!
We were so sad to say bye to the California gang yesterday afternoon! Matt and I are campaigning hard for Spencer and Michelle to move here so we can hang out all the time. 😉
What do you usually take visitors to do in your town/city? In DC it’s easy because everyone always wants to walk around the National Mall!
