What is feta cheese?
Feta originates from Greece, so it’s often used in Mediterranean and Greek-inspired dishes.
Feta cheese can either be bought as a block of cheese, or as cheese crumbles. It’s usually made from sheep’s milk (or a mix of sheep’s and goat’s milk), and is aged in a salty brine.
The pre-crumbled version is more convenient, but I think the blocks of feta cheese tend to be a bit more flavorful. So – you do you. Can’t go wrong either way.
Tasty Recipes With Feta Cheese to Try
Now, let’s talk recipe inspiration! Over the years, I’ve perfected the art of adding feta to my favorite dishes, and I want to share them with you. 🙂
I just love how versatile feta is. It adds tons of flavor without overpowering a meal. Plus, it’s just as good enjoyed cold as it is when it gets warm and melty.
You can crumble it over salads, mix it into burger patties, add it to fillings for stuffed vegetables, and lots more. Here are my favorite ways to enjoy feta cheese!
Crispy Feta Fried Eggs
If you love feta as much as I do, you need to try these crispy feta fried eggs! They’re inspired by the viral TikTok recipe, and they’re super easy to make.
You only need 10 minutes and a handful of ingredients for this delicious high protein breakfast.
Spinach & Artichoke Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms
Say hello to the coziest side dish recipe (that also happens to be vegetarian)! Portobello mushrooms are stuffed with spinach, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, and more, then baked to golden perfection.
These baked feta stuffed mushrooms are easy to make and pair well with tons of main dishes. You can also serve these as a bite-sized appetizer by using small baby bella mushrooms!
Watermelon Feta Salad

With watermelon, arugula, pistachios, feta cheese, and more goodness, you really can’t go wrong with this quick, no-cook dish. It’s all drizzled in a simple lime dressing for even more flavor. Plus, it utilizes the watermelon rind (which is mild tasting, similar to cucumber) to reduce food waste.
Greek Chicken Stuffed Peppers
Aren’t these pretty? They taste great, too! Baked chicken and quinoa stuffed bell peppers are packed with Mediterranean-inspired flavors like feta cheese and kalamata olives. These make a perfect weeknight meal, because they’re quick to prep and most of the cook time is done in the oven.
You can easily make this recipe vegetarian, too, by either leaving out the chicken or replacing it with extra chickpeas. Either way, it’s delicious!
Mediterranean Sweet Potato Hummus Bites
Looking for a flavorful appetizer that can be served year-round? These sweet potato rounds are topped with hummus, tomatoes, herbs, and feta cheese for a simple yet delicious gluten-free finger food that’s perfect for any party or gathering.

Greek Lamb Burgers
If you’ve never tried lamb burgers, you’re missing out, my friend! These might just be my favorite burgers ever, with spinach, feta, sun-dried tomatoes, and more. We make them on repeat over here, especially in summer.
Serve these in a bun like a classic burger, or my favorite way: in a whole-wheat pita with extra veggies and cucumber yogurt garlic sauce drizzled on top (recipe included)!
Mediterranean Bulgur Salad with Feta
This is one of my favorite go-to side dishes! Chewy bulgur, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese, and red onion is tossed in a simple lemon mint vinaigrette dressing.
You can easily make this ahead of time, and it pairs well with practically anything. Feel free to swap out the bulgur for quinoa or another grain, too – you do you.
Smoked Salmon Breakfast Casserole
Breakfast casseroles are especially perfect for feeding a crowd at brunch gatherings, and this one is sure to be a hit.
Fluffy eggs are baked with smoked salmon, veggies (anything you have on hand works!), and feta cheese for a cozy dish that’s also super nutritious. A win-win!
Lemony Spinach Quinoa Salad
You can probably tell by now that I love grain salads, and this one is no exception! It’s full of lemony flavor and sauteed greens, with kidney beans and fluffy quinoa.
It comes together quickly and is so satisfying as a side dish or lunch!
Stuffed Acorn Squash
This is the ultimate fall dish! Tender roasted acorn squash is piled high with goodies like cranberries, quinoa, herbs, and feta cheese. It’s a fabulous side dish, and is also satisfying enough to be a vegetarian main dish for the holidays.
