Hello friends!
Matt and I have had such a fun day here in Charlottesville eating and tasting wine!
We have been coming to Charlottesville ever since we started dating — it’s such a cute town, and perfect that it’s so close to Shenandoah National Park! We first came here in 2005 for Matt’s birthday and have been about every year since. We usually spend one day in Charlottesville and one day hiking in the Shenandoahs. This trip is no exception! Hiking comes tomorrow. 🙂
This year is especially fun since we now have friends that live here — Kath and her husband, also Matt!
Kath and Matt own the Great Harvest bakery here in Charlottesville — delicious! We hit it up for lunch when we first arrived.
Oh curried tuna sandwich. I have dreamt about you.
Plus a sample of their seasonal Pumpkin Oh’s!
We also picked up a loaf of the Cville Crunch and a bag of the Cville Cluster Granola. SO GOOD!
Then… it was time for wine tasting. We had a beautiful day on our hands!
We started at Jefferson Vineyards.
Loved their wines!
Apparently they have won a million awards.
We bought a couple bottles. 🙂
Our next stop was Blenheim Vineyards, which is apparently owned by Dave Matthews! Matt was in heaven.
Apparently I was obsessed with taking pictures of their wine glass.
Yum, yum!
Gorgeous views, too.
When we got back into town, Kath and Matt recommended a fun new place for dinner on the downtown walking mall that they’d been wanting to try called Commonwealth.
We started up at their Sky Bar, which is a rooftop bar overlooking the walking mall. Very cool!
We were seated for dinner shortly after and it was seriously the best meal I’ve had in a LONG time. All of us loved what we got!
Kath’s birthday is in a couple weeks, so we decided to celebrate early with a bottle of wine. 🙂
Then, we all started by sharing the lobster and crab cakes:
Insanely good.
Plus the seared scallops — always a win:
For my entrée, I had the lamb with a minted pea… something ‘er other. (The menu isn’t online yet since the restaurant is so new — fail):
Either way, it was insanely good.
We all shared bites of our respective meals and I loved what everyone else had, too — my Matt had the steak, Kath’s Matt had the pork tenderloin with a tomato chorizo mushroom topping, and Kath had the fish skewer with a delicious coconut rice. Major yum. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area! The ambience was great, too — cozy, trendy, and very fun.
Dinner was followed by a trip down the street for gelato, where I had pumpkin gelato on the cutest, tiniest cone ever.
I was clearly pumped.
What a fun day! We’re off to bed here at Kath and Matt’s place — hiking trip in the morning! Excited. Hope you’re all enjoying your weekends, too! 🙂
