I’ve had a fun few days in D.C. enjoying the remainder of my break!
On Saturday morning, I hit up my favorite yoga studio – Stroga in Adams Morgan! I have a 10 class pass I bought ages ago through Living Social that expires on January 4th, so I wanted to make sure to use it up. Love this place – the studio is in a beautiful ballroom!
It was rainy/snowy outside so I had to bundle up for the trip – Under Armour sent me this cool waterproof hoodie earlier this month so it was perfect timing to test it out.
I was a big fan – water really did fall right off it! I’ve been wearing it around the house for the past month since we refuse to turn on our heat yet and it’s perfect for that, too. 🙂
Other fun this weekend included drinks and snacks at my college friend Sarah’s place on Saturday night, and then on Sunday, my college BFF Kris came to visit!
Those of you who have been reading for a few months will recognize Kris as one of my bridesmaids in our wedding! She moved to Paris a few months ago for work but was back in Philadelphia to see her family for Christmas; she was sweet enough to take the train down to DC yesterday to see me.
I got up and went running on Sunday morning and then met Kris at the train station at 11:30. From there, we embarked on a full day of DC fun! Our first stop was Eastern Market, which is a cool outdoor market in DC. We checked out the vendors for an hour or so and then when we were sufficiently frozen headed to lunch at Matchbox, one of my faves.
We shared a few things since we wanted all the same stuff. 🙂 First, a crispy kale salad with mixed greens, goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, and pickled radish. Yum!
We also shared the Chesapeake Benedict, which was a crab cake wrapped in bacon with a poached egg on top. SO good. We got the hollandaise sauce on the side since I’m not a fan.
And finally, a small pizza – topped with fresh mozzarella, basil, and prosciutto.
Delicious lunch!
After our feast, we headed out to explore! We took the metro to the Smithsonian stop, hopped off, and walked the monuments. It was windy and cold but we had fun with it. 🙂
Walking the monuments will never get old. I loved having an excuse to explore the city by showing Kris around!
All bundled up!
We continued our walk over to the Lincoln memorial. (Speaking of – I really want to see that movie!)
From there, we decided to keep walking! Since Matt and I were in Costa Rica on our honeymoon for most of December, I hadn’t seen the National Christmas Tree over by the White House yet this year, and Kris had never seen it – so that was our next mission.
So pretty! I loved the train sets below the tree.
From there, we swung by to say hello to the Obamas:
By this point we’d been walking for two hours, so we decided it was time to relax. We hopped on the metro up to Dupont to warm up with some tea at Teaism.
From there, we headed to dinner at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café, another fave of mine. First up – wine!
For dinner, I had the scallops wrapped in bacon (apparently that was a theme for the day) with a cool sushi-esque tower on the side. It was delicious!
What an awesome day – hit up so many of my DC faves and it was great to see Kris, too. Thanks for coming down for a visit, Kris! Miss you already!
Can you guys believe it’s New Years Eve?! How time flies. I ended my year on an endorphin high note and went on a run with my friend Ashley this morning! 5 miles on our favorite trail (the C&O Canal) – done and done.
Anyone else get in a good workout to finish out 2012 today?
Now I’m off to relax a little, meet some high school girlfriends for coffee, and then head to a friend’s place for NYE festivities – we’re doing a potluck dinner there and then heading out to the bars later. Have a fun and safe night and Happy New Year, everyone!
