Hello friends!
Two of my best friends from college (and future bridesmaids in our wedding) are here visiting this weekend!
Yay! Kris (dark hair) has been wanting to come visit but was busy finishing up her Ph.D. in Boston. Now that she’s finished (we like calling her “Dr. Kris” now) she made plans to visit this weekend, and when I told Turner that Kris was coming, she decided to come back for another visit as well! 🙂 Turner (that’s a nickname, her real name is Laura) is actually also working on a Ph.D. — but in Philadelphia. I have smart friends, apparently.
Kris arrived on Friday night and we had a low key leftover Sweet Potato and Black Bean Veggie Enchiladas and movie night on the couch with Matt while catching up. Turner arrived Saturday around lunch time, and I whisked them straight over to Sandwhich, one of my favorite local spots!
I had my standard — the BLT plus a fried egg on toast. SO GOOD! Plus their trademark curried carrots that come with the sandwiches.
I loved this note they put on all of our trays. 🙂
After lunch, we headed out to explore Chapel Hill and campus, since this is Kris’s first time visiting the area!
All of us got the brown boot memo, apparently.
It was cold but nice and sunny. 🙂
Clearly ice cream was in order after all our walking. Kris had read about Maple View Farm on the blog and requested to go — clearly Turner and I were on board.
Best ice cream ever. Coffee toffee for me!
Last night, we had happy hour at our place before heading out to dinner! Matt got some fun cheese, crackers, and sausage and prepared a nice plate for everyone to snack on.
Plus wine, of course!
Our friends Tim and Lindsey stopped by to say hello as well. Lindsey is due to give birth next week! So exciting. We’ve been going on nice long walks around the neighborhood over the past few months — she’s been great about staying in shape.
Matt, Turner, Kris, and I all went to dinner at Elaine’s on Franklin, another one of my favorites in the area. A bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion like having your BFF’s in town. 🙂
Matt and I shared a salad to start:
And we were also all treated to a taste of the house-smoked n.c. bluefish w/ arugula, horseradish dressing, homemade potato chips & chioggia beets courtesy of the chef.
For my entrée, I enjoyed the Moroccan spiced n.c. scallops w/ couscous, pine nuts, oranges, olive & parsley salad & a spicy red pepper sauce.
Everything was amazing. Dessert also happened — coconut sorbet with a macaroon for me. I don’t usually like sorbet but coconut sorbet is awesome. 🙂
Such a fun night! We had a bottle of wine with dinner as well and basically closed the place down. Our waiter was like, “You guys were fun!” Haha. Aka loud!
I’ll be back tomorrow with more of our adventures, including a great and speedy 5 mile run this morning!
Happy Sunday!
