1) Fall colors and hiking.
I explored a fun new-to-me trail on Saturday with my friend Ashley – the Potomac Heritage Trail, which you can access from the Roosevelt Island Parking lot in Virginia, just south of Key Bridge on the George Washington Parkway (going north). Walk towards the entrance to the parking lot and just before the pedestrian bridge that leads up towards Rosslyn/Key Bridge, go off to the right instead!
2) The True Food Cookbook – written by the owners of the restaurant True Food Kitchen, which you guys know I love.
I had no idea they had a cookbook until I received it as a parting gift at an event in the Mosaic District last week, and it’s already become my new favorite! It features a ton of healthy, fresh, and tasty recipes, many of which I recognize from their restaurant menu, which is cool.
Matt and I have decided we want to cook our way through it via our Tuesday night cooking challenge, so he kicked things off last night. He made the Kale Caesar Salad, which is one of our favorites appetizers at the restaurant, and the Southwestern Bison Meatball Soup – full of veggies and quinoa in a tomato base. Delicious! AND we have lots of leftovers – I enjoyed some for lunch today. 🙂 Highly recommend this cookbook if you’re looking for a new one!
3) theSkimm. This is a daily e-newsletter that is essentially a CliffsNotes version of the world news. It’s free and arrives in your inbox early every weekday morning, including a concise overview of the biggest news stories worldwide from the previous 24 hours. I first heard about this from my friend Turner when she was visiting a couple months ago and have been loving it (and recommending it to everyone I know) ever since! It’s run by two friends that are news producers, and they do a great job boiling down the news into understandable, unbiased overviews, including brief background reminders about why certain things are happening in the first place and why you should care. Check it out!
4) Barnraiser – I just heard about this earlier this week and thought it was so cool I needed to share! It’s a crowd-funding platform for sustainable food and agriculture – love this idea!
5) Dried Goji berries. Have you guys tried these before? They’re one of my favorite snacks when I want a little something sweet – especially after dinner. Packed with antioxidants and other nutrients, too! I usually eat them on their own but they are good in trail mix as well. You can buy them online or find them in health food stores – I bought some recently from the bulk bins at Whole Foods.
What are you loving lately?
p.s. A bonus thing I’m loving lately, for the Pacey and Joey fans like me. You’re welcome: Pacey + Joey the internet movie. (So awesome.)
