Good morning my friends! Guess what? Today is my birthday! I’m 34 – wow, how did that happen?! Also, I’ve officially reached the age where I can’t always remember how old I am. I seriously have to think about it for a minute when people ask me now! It’s funny how when you’re little age is SUCH a big deal – you remember exactly how old you are to the month and would never mess up the year. Now, not so much. 🙂
Per tradition in our house, when it’s your birthday you get breakfast in bed! So fun. Zara joined us for the occasion, too. 😉
I requested soft boiled eggs – love that runny egg yolk! So much tastier than hard egg yolks. Thanks for spoiling me, Matt! 🙂
I got an email yesterday from my Starbucks app reminding me that I get a free birthday drink – yessssss! Matt and I normally only do “coffee walks” (aka a stroll with coffee or to get coffee) on the weekends, but I asked if we could make time to do one this morning before work to get my free drink. Hooray! Iced grande whole milk latte FTW.
Nice way to start the day! I’ll be spending the rest of the day working (you know, since last week we were in Hawaii and I didn’t exactly crush it on the work front besides doing my nutrition presentations and a couple quick blog posts – worth it!), but I am treating myself to a lunchtime yoga class. I also have a mobility session with Paul from Capital Energy Training late this afternoon, so I’ll be nice and stretched! I feel REALLY tight from all the plane sitting so it will feel good. Tonight’s plan is a fun dinner out with Matt and my mom. 🙂
Matt and I got back from Hawaii around 5 p.m. on Monday and have been getting back into the swing of things since! In an attempt to get right back on east coast time, I dragged myself out of bed on Tuesday morning for my 6:30 a.m. track workout. OOF… this was a rough one.
It was cloudy and very humid out and I felt reeeeeally sluggish, unsurprisingly, given that I ran the Maui half marathon on Sunday morning and then took a series of red eye flights that evening and didn’t really sleep much. It was great to see my track buddies again, though – I missed them! Our workout was a descending ladder with longer intervals: a 2400 (6 laps), then 2000 (5 laps), then 1600 (4 laps – 1 mile) at threshold pace with 1-2min recovery in between each. My coach could tell I was struggling so he had me cut the last 1600 to an 800 instead. Not my best track workout of all time but I was still glad I got out there!
I worked from home yesterday so I could make a quick trip to Whole Foods for groceries at lunchtime. I treated myself to lunch beforehand because we all know grocery shopping while hungry = not the smartest idea. I did my usual “get whatever looks good and randomly mix it together and hope for the best” approach – turned out quite tasty!
Yay for a stocked fridge! That citrus zester was an impulse purchase – we already tried it last night for a Blue Apron meal that involved zesting a lemon – worked pretty well!
It’s weird that Whole Foods has a million pumpkins outside when it still feels like summer! I’m not ready to embrace fall recipes and pumpkin until it’s cooler out… anyone else?!
Anyway – time to get back to work! We’re putting the finishing touches on our Joyful Eating program updates for the October 10 session and I have a long list of things to review and finalize. We have some great new worksheets on emotional eating to add to the mix that I’m excited about!
Have a fabulous day, my friends!
