This morning, Matt and I ran 6.2 miles through mud with my grad school friends Elle and Lauren.
It was awesome.
Remember when I did a 5k mud run in April? It was a blast, so when I found the ad for today’s 10k mud run, I knew it needed to happen. Matt, Elle, and Lauren had heard me talk about the last run and were instantly on board.
(Yes, Elle’s shirt says “30 and dirty” — amazing)
What a race! We had an absolute blast. It was a lot like the other mud run I did, but longer and with even more fun/dirty obstacles.
Our wave started at 9 a.m., bright and early. We were ready to rock!
Loved the girls wearing tutus!
Our first obstacle was this mound of logs to climb over. Since it was right at the start of the race, there was a bit of a line.
It was actually way harder than it looked! Hard to get a grip on anything since the logs were so close together. But one of my favorite things about mud races is that people aren’t competing and are really focused on helping each other out. There was so much love on this course, especially at this obstacle where many were struggling! Everyone was helping and cheering on everyone else — I loved it.
Then came the crazy mud pools.
Totally got my foot stuck and had to have a random lady help drag me out, lol. Thanks, random lady! 🙂
Rocking out in the mud with Elle:
LOVE this photo — mid jump:
Followed by more mud — these logs were “one over, one under, one over, one under…”
And then — more climbing! I liked this one. Very high, but fun.
Lauren (far left below) like: “Wait, how the heck do I get up this?”
On to the trenches!
View from down in the action:
Log walks!
Eeek!
Followed by more climbing:
And a monkey bars-esque obstacle — Matt was amazing at it, the girls and I all fell off into the water within two seconds. 😉
Brief pause to take a photo of how messy we were:
Then it was rope swing time! Clearly we also all fell into this pool, lol. Except for Matt — he made it!
Most amazing photo ever of Elle mid-wipeout:
Followed by a running interlude without any obstacles — had to get in those 6 miles somewhere! This was actually pretty challenging — my feet weighed like 500 pounds with all the mud attached to them!
Then, more ropes!
More mud:
More logs + mud:
Followed by one of my favorite obstacles:
So cool! It was like playing leap frog on lily pads.
And then, obviously, more mud! This obstacle was fun — a high jump into a 10 foot mud pool!
Followed by some more mud wading/climbing:
And then — the main event — a WATER SLIDE! So fun:
Close up — ha.
Weeeee!
And finally — THE FINISH!
We are champions.
What a fun and ridiculous morning. We’re exhausted! 6 miles on a mud course took us about 2 hours — whew! Is 6 p.m. too early for bed?!
Enjoy the rest of your weekends. 🙂

p.s. For those of you wondering how I got pictures during this hot mess of a race, I bought a cheap Kodak waterproof digital camera. It was great and survived numerous muddy water submersions! It wasn’t even that much more money than a disposable water proof camera would be (when you count in getting photos developed, etc.), and I figured I’d use it again. Win!
