Hey friends! Matt and I are on our way back to DC after a fun few days in Seaside, Florida for his brother’s wedding! I’ll be back tomorrow to share a recap of the rehearsal dinner and wedding day fun, but for now wanted to pop in with some of the non-wedding food and fitness highlights from the week. 🙂
Sadly we had pretty crummy weather the whole time we were in Seaside (it cleared up for the wedding day, though – whew!), so our scuba diving plans were foiled and we weren’t able to hit the beach. Boo! It was a really cute town though (they actually filmed the movie “The Truman Show” in Seaside) and now I really want to go back when the weather is nicer to see more of it! Check this out: the world’s cutest post office. 🙂 Apparently it’s the most photographed building in town!
Seaside also had lots of great food! They have a row of food trucks lining the main circle in town – my favorite was this awesome organic and vegan “Raw & Juicy” food truck. 🙂
I loved their kale salad (the dressing was olive oil, lemon juice, and avocado – such a good combo!) and their brown rice/black bean/sauerkraut bowls. Great fresh pressed juice, too!
Another big food highlight from Seaside was the lobster rolls! I had no idea they had lobster in Florida, but apparently it was fresh and caught locally!
So good – no fillers, just straight up lobster, lemon, and butter.
Also recommended: the tacos! This place was right next door to the shrimp shack – I think it was called the Taco Bar. I had one fish and one pork – both awesome.
Another don’t miss: the lattes/coffee at amavida, also right in the main town square area. So good!
Don’t worry, I got more oysters, too – so obsessed. They were so big and flavorful in this part of Florida! These were from Great Southern Café in Seaside.
I loved Great Southern’s greek salad, too – blackened shrimp FTW.
As for fitness fun, one of the highlights was biking around Seaside and Watercolor (the next town) – it was my favorite kind of biking: flat, easy, and scenic. 🙂
Matt discovered a bunch of cool trails winding all around behind the houses that we enjoyed exploring on two mornings – the first time just the two of us and the second time with the groom, Matt’s brother Drew, in tow!
I also enjoyed two yoga classes – one was a chilly/gray morning that I decided to treat myself to a class at nearby Balance 30A.
I loved the class, which was an hour and 15 minute vinyasa flow. Felt wonderful to stretch! Pretty studio, too.
The other yoga class I enjoyed was over in Rosemary Beach area on the morning of the wedding at a place called Otium!
The bride and groom organized a group yoga class for the wedding party, close friends, and family – such a nice way to start their wedding day with them! I even convinced Matt to come. 🙂 It was a big crew – about 30 of us attended!
And lastly on the fitness front, I discovered my friend and running buddy Mary was 15 minutes away on a work trip! We overlapped for a day and clearly had to make a run date happen. 🙂
Matt was off with the wedding party most of the day on Saturday so it was perfect timing for me to meet Mary for a run!
We hit up Topsail Hill Preserve State Park for some chatty miles. 🙂
We originally planned to run about 3 miles but we got lost and ended up making it 5. Added bonus! I forgot to wear my watch so I snagged a shot of Mary’s instead. 🙂
Thanks for the miles, my friend – so fun and random to get to see you!
Enjoy the rest of your weekends, my friends – see you tomorrow with my final Florida trip recap – the wedding adventures!
